Design of Structures

The course introduces the student to problems of designing structures in no seismic zone. In particular, several aspects concerning reinforced concrete structures will be examined in depth. According to the teaching approach the student will develop a design of a small R.C. structure, applying the concepts acquired during the lessons.

The course provides theoretical knowledge and engineering skills to understand the behavior of structures with advanced technologies and innovative materials. Students will gain transversal skills to design new structures and retrofit existing structures considering construction phases, durability, and according to the state-of-the-art of technical literature. The development of engineering sensitivity towards sustainability in constructions will also be fostered.
